Rowena Rush entered the presence of her Lord on June 21, 2018. After her birth on September 3, 1915 in Reading, Massachusetts she moved with her parents, Albert and Grace Wesley Stelling, and her sister Christina and their beloved aunt, Gertrude Wesley, to Walnut Beach in Milford. As youngsters, Rennie, as Rowena was called, and her sister helped their father on his bakery wagon route up and down the Milford streets. They loved their faithful horse, Don, who pulled the wagon. They enjoyed the beach and walking to Charles Island. When in her teens, Rennie put her trust in Jesus Christ as her Savior and Lord, and knew the joy of a long life in His service. After attending Nyack Missionary Training Institute she moved to England where she married Sidney Mead. Their daughter was named Rowena Faith. When her husband was tragically killed in an explosion at work Rennie and her toddler returned to their family in Milford where she later met and married Lloyd Rush. They celebrated their sixty-sixth anniversary in 2009. Their daughter is Laurel Rush. Rennie and Lloyd had four grandchildren--Stephanie Welty, Andrew Margosian, Tammon Margosian and Wendy Nussbaum--ten great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Rennie was a secretary at Milford Health Department, a wonderful and loving wife and mother, and a gifted servant at West Haven Alliance Church and Calvary Church in Milford. In all areas of her life she used her wisdom and talents in homemaking, cooking, sewing, growing flowers, entertaining, creating beautiful holidays, Early American tole painting and other arts, writing, teaching and speaking. She had a special heart for lost souls worldwide and led a monthly gathering of Missionary Prayer Girls and Moments With Missions in Sunday School. The Bible and prayer were the bulwarks of her life. Rennie exemplified the woman described in Proverbs, chapter 31, verses 10 and 25: "Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies...Strength and honor are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come." Funeral services will be held Monday June 25, 2018 at 11am at Calvary Alliance Church, 273 Orange Ave., Milford. Interment will follow at Milford Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Monday at Calvary Alliance Church from 10:30am until time of service. Smith Funeral Home, 135 N. Broad St., Milford is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Alliance Church.
