Our most deepest sympathy to the entire Jaynes Family for your loss of Peter, who provided so many wonderful memories and the best of times while living in the Milford area back in the 80's. I never forget him shopping for his first "Harley" as he was going through his mid-life and allowing to come along for the final decision on which bike to buy. What a beautiful legacy he left in one
of the most wonderful families you'll ever get to know. He surely will be missed, but I know many people will agree, he made a
tremendous neighbor and friend second to none. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you Sandy, and your entire family.
Sending our love your way, from old friends in Cincinnati, Ohio.

My family moved to Atlanta in June, 1960. We lived on Van Epps Avenue about a block from the Jaynes family. My parents, along with Pete's parents, were Salvation Army officers. I graduated from East Atlanta High School in 1963 a year ahead of Pete. In June, 1964, Pete and I joined the US Marine Corps. That summer, we quit our jobs and went on vacation to Miami, where we met some girls from Chicago. They asked to come visit them if we were ever in the area. We hitchhiked from Miami to Chicago only to learn that our "girlfriends" had boyfriends and no desire to see us. One of my cherished possessions is a diary of that hot, humid journey in August, 1964. We never had more than $25 between us. Fortunately, many nice people bought us 30 meals and provided 42 rides. We went to Parris Island, SC for boot camp on October 20, 1964 and were assigned to platoon #295, 2nd battalion. We graduated in January, 1965 and went directly to Camp LeJeune, NC for combat training. From there, Pete went to Pensacola, FL for aviation training, experienced some medical problems and was discharged honorably only six months into his enlistment. It probably kept him out of Vietnam. I was assigned to Norfolk, VA, then back to Parris Island six months later. In 1966, I went to Marine security guard school in Alexandria, VA and spent the last two years of a four-year enlistment at the American embassies in Warsaw, Poland and Rome, Italy. Pete and I were friends for nearly 60 years. To Sandy and family, plus all the friends in Milford, please know that you were blessed to have Pete in your community for so many years. I'll shall miss him and know that all of you feel the same way. RIP, Pete, and God bless you always!
